Law and philosophy, consumer defence and bank representation, individual practice and corporate practice. Each step has built the next. Solent Avocats is the result.
Course
Raphaël Morenon holds a Master's degree in Law and a Master's degree in Philosophy from the University of Aix-Marseille, as well as a diploma from the University of Paris.'Mediterranean Institute of Criminology. He was called to the Marseille Bar on 8 January 2016.
Before taking the Bar, he worked as a student lawyer in the banking and insurance department of UFC-Que Choisir. There he discovered banking litigation on the consumer side: mortgages, abusive APRs, commercial practices of credit institutions. This experience has had a lasting impact on his practice - knowledge of both sides of the case has become a structural advantage.
His first few years of practice were spent in a firm representing banking institutions. He learned the mechanisms of debt collection, debt portfolio management and enforcement procedures as seen from the creditor's desk. Then he switched sides and started defending against the banks.
In 2019, he set up his own practice. In 2023, he co-founded SELARL Solent Avocats with Charlotte Gauchon. The firm focuses exclusively on banking law, commercial law and enforcement.
Areas of expertise
Raphaël Morenon is best known for his work on property seizures. From the summons to appear before the JEX to the distribution of the price, he masters each stage of a procedure where the formalities are ruthless and the slightest irregularity can lead to the whole thing being declared null and void.
Enforcement proceedings in the broad sense of the term are just as important. Seizure of ships, seizure of company shares, attachment for payment: these are high-stakes procedures, often international, in which the firm is regularly involved.
Banking law is the other mainstay of his practice. Credit agreements, accelerated repayment, guarantees, bank liability: having represented both parties - consumers and credit institutions - gives you an insight into the issues that few practitioners have.
Hundreds of pages repeated the same legal texts without comment, without contextualising them, without warning the reader of the pitfalls that only practice reveals.
Passing on knowledge
The desire to pass on this knowledge was born out of a simple observation: the lack of training available. Raphaël Morenon himself needed to learn and progress, and there were few training courses available in enforcement and seizure of property. So he designed the courses he wanted to follow.
The result: a blog with more than 1,200 freely accessible articles, and a professional training programme delivered at EDACS (École des avocats Centre-Sud), IXAD (Nord-Ouest) and a number of training organisations. Its training courses cover property seizures, mortgages, price distribution, defending against property seizures and current developments in enforcement procedures. The firm is Qualiopi certified.
Enforcement law is the law of legal constraint. Each procedure is governed by a set of formalities, and the slightest irregularity can render the entire procedure null and void. This is where cases are won.Raphaël Morenon
